Greenpoint Ag’s Joey Caldwell Testifies at Ag Committee Hearing On Financial Conditions In Farm Country, Supports 2024 Farm Bill

Jul 24, 2024

Washington, D.C. – Joey Caldwell, the Senior Vice President of Retail for GreenPoint Ag, testified yesterday (July 23, 2024) at the hearing on Financial Conditions in Farm Country, expressing strong support for the 2024 Farm Bill. The hearing, held by the House Committee on Agriculture, focused on addressing the financial challenges faced by farmers and ranchers across the nation.

Chairman GT Thompson's remarks set the tone for a productive discussion on the future of agricultural policy and the financial well-being of farm families by stating, “We’re living through the largest two-year decline in farm income in history. Again, in 2024, total farm sector debt will be the highest in the United States has seen at least since 1970.”

Caldwell highlighted the critical importance of the 2024 Farm Bill in providing much-needed support and resources to the American farmer. He emphasized the bill's role in ensuring the certainty it brings, particularly in the face of economic pressures and environmental challenges.

“Strong farmers make strong families. Those strong families make for strong rural communities. And it is those communities that help make the fabric of this great nation,” said Caldwell. “While farmers are a fiercely resilient and independent bunch, it takes a whole lot of people working together to get them what they need -- including all y’all. Farmers need a strong farm bill. Most importantly, they rely on the certainty crop insurance and price support helps provide.”

Caldwell's testimony was met with appreciation from committee members, including Chairman GT Thompson. The hearing provided a platform for various stakeholders to voice their perspectives and share insights on how the Farm Bill can be optimized to better serve the agricultural community. Caldwell's testimony was a key highlight, bringing 42 years of experience and expertise in agriculture to the conversation.
